Tournament Information It was the honour and privilege for
Irish Water Polo Association to have been awarded Qualification Group A of
the 2006 European Junior Men’s Waterpolo Championships. The tournament took place
in the National 50 Metre Swimming Pool, University Arena, Limerick (May 4-7).
The countries taking part were: Belarus, Great Britain, Israel, Poland,
Portugal and Ireland. LEN (Ligue Européenne de Natation) nominated TWPC
Secretary, Manfred Vater (Germany) as Delegate. The neutral referees who officiated
at the tournament were: Arkadi Voevodin (Russia), Yavor
Nestorov (Bulgaria), Akif Uz (Turkey), Irakli Kikashvili (Georgia), Serghei
Melnikov (Moldova) and Alkis Alikviades (Cyprus). After a tough four days of competition, the team of Great
Britain took top spot, with Poland coming second. GBR won all 5 of their
games, Poland won 4 out of 5. Congratulations to GB and Poland and coaches
Norman Leighton, Jerome Read (both of GBR) and to Edward Kujawa of Poland.
Good luck to both in Oradea (ROM) in the 2006 European
Junior Men’s Waterpolo Championships Unfortunately, hosts Ireland could not manage a win. Although
coach Brian O’Dwyer’s men pushed many opponents close, they lost all their
